Beginning in December 2023, Google will begin deleting inactive accounts that have not been used for two years or more. This policy is being implemented to protect user data and improve the overall security of Google’s products and services.
Here are the specific criteria that Google will use to determine if an account is inactive:
- The account has not been signed into for two years or more.
- The account has not been used to sign in to any Google service for two years or more.
- The account has not been used to make a purchase of a Google product, app, service, or subscription that is current or ongoing.
- The account does not contain a gift card with a monetary balance.
If your account is inactive, Google will send you a warning email at least eight months before your account is deleted. The email will provide you with instructions on how to reactivate your account. If you do not reactivate your account, it will be deleted, along with all of your data.
Here are some things you can do to keep your Google account active:
- Sign in to your account regularly.
- Use Google products and services, such as Gmail, YouTube, and Google Drive.
- Make a purchase of a Google product, app, service, or subscription.
- Add a gift card to your account with a monetary balance.
